18 Month RTW Budget Breakdown

We compiled this information to share with other travelers to assist with budget planning for their own RTW trip. Sure, we probably could have spent less, but we pride ourselves on the fact that we travel very comfortably and do extensive research to find great value for the dollar.

Summary

Following Serbia, we traveled by mini bus to Hungary, where we visited Budapest for the holidays. During months 17-18, we traveled overland (mainly by train) where we visited Slovakia, Austria, Czech Republic, and Germany. We then took a flight from Prague, Czech Republic to Salerno, Italy. We traveled overland (by train) from Salerno, Italy to Ljubljana, Slovenia. During this time we also visited San Marino and the Vatican City.

The chart below breaks out the total cost (DETAILS) and average daily expenses for this period of travel. During this 3 month time frame, we traveled to 9 countries. We spent a total of $6,674. Our daily average for this initial time frame equates to $70 per day. *Click on chart to expand.

After 18 months on the road, including traveling through 32 countries and 6 continents, we’ve spent a total of $62,204. At this point in our travels, our overall daily average is $117 per day. When we include credit card reward statement credits the overall daily average is $113 per day! *Click on table below to expand.

Please note: There is no statistical correlation with Train/Subway rides and our drinking problem. Trains do not necessarily cause us to drink.

  1. This is awesome! You spent less in the last 3 months / 9 countries than i typically do on one vacation get away! So amazing. …and can i have the p value associated with train rides vs wine intake? I’m not sure there isn’t a statistical correlation! Ha ha ;)~
