  1. Just came back from spending an afternoon in Plovdiv on our way from the Sinemoretz (Black Sea) to Sofia and saw this video. Did you walk through the Plovdiv’s famous Old Town? Have a traditional Turkish dessert and coffee or tea at the sweetshop adjoining the mosque? It’s a great city and I’m glad it is the European Capital of Culture in 2019.

    1. Sounds like you had a nice little trip! Yes, we were lucky to plan 7 days in Plovdiv so we had lots of time to walk through the Old Town. We took advantage of the great Free Walking Tour too. We were unaware that there was a sweet shop adjoining the mosque. (Surprised that wasn’t mentioned on our walking tour.) Is there a traditional dessert that you recommend? We can stop there next time we are in Plovdiv! 🙂

      1. The name of the sweet shop is Djumaia and there are many, many traditional Turkish desserts there – very hard to choose just one. Bulgarian cuisine takes its dessert cues from Turkey (500 years under the Ottoman Empire will do that for you), but the melba is one dessert that the Bulgarians have made utterly their own.
