Go City vs. Visitor Pass vs. Cool Pass
As mentioned before, our top choice for a Prague city pass is the Go City Pass, followed by the Cool Pass, and then the Visitor Pass. Here’s why.
The Prague Go City Pass covers most of the major attractions that tourists want to visit. It’s also slightly cheaper than the Cool Pass and much cheaper than the Visitor Pass. Below, we’ll briefly discuss what’s included and not included in each pass.
We’re not going to list every single attraction included in each pass because that would be overwhelming and defeat the purpose of this article. Instead, we aim to simplify the process so you can easily understand the main differences and feel confident in choosing the right Prague city pass for your trip.
Go City vs. Visitor Pass
Let’s address the several key differences between the Go City and Visitor Pass. First, Go City offers 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5-day passes while Visitor Pass offers 2, 3, and 5-day passes. So, if you’re looking for a one-day pass then Go City is the only option.
Next, the other main difference is that the Visitor Pass includes free use of all public transportation (metro, trams, buses) and includes a roundtrip airport transfer. Realistically, public transportation in Prague is so cheap and easy to navigate on your own that the inclusion of it in some passes offers limited benefits.
Regarding the airport transfer service, you’re essentially swapping a sightseeing activity for the transfer. Plus, it’s simple to find shared or cheap private transfers to and from the airport. Additionally, many people prefer to take a day to acclimate to their surroundings before diving into a full day of sightseeing—we know we do!
Finally, the Visitor Pass does offer more attractions than the Go City Pass but it comes at a significant cost. For this reason, it may be more worthwhile to pay for these out of pocket alongside a Go City Pass. Furthermore, if you don’t have the time to see these less-popular attractions then it won’t matter anyway. Finally, if you are looking to sort of “see it all,” then the Cool Pass is the best option as it offers the most number of attractions at the best price.
Go City vs. Cool Pass
When it comes to a Prague city pass, the Cool Pass is the closest competition to the Go City Pass. The Cool Pass offers additional options, including 6, 7, or 10-day passes. However, for any duration between one to five days, the Go City Pass is more affordable.
One main difference is that the Cool Pass does not include the Hop-On Hop-Off bus, which is one of our favorite activities in a new city. The bus stops in all the most highly trafficked areas, making public transportation virtually unnecessary.
Four main attractions on the Cool Pass are not included with the Go City Pass. However, only the Prague Zoo and Lobkowicz Palace are relatively highly ranked. So, unless these are high on your list of things to do in Prague, you’re better off getting the Go City Pass. Alternatively, if you have the time or desire to see these lesser-known attractions, consider a 6, 7, or 10-day Cool Pass.
- Prague Zoo
- Lobkowicz Palace
- Sternberg Palace
- Schwarzenberg Palace
Which Prague City Pass Should You Go With?
Much of which Prague city pass you should go with will depend on three things:
- How much you want do you want to spend?
- How much time do you have?
- How much do you want to see?
If you’re looking to have a high-paced couple of days packed with sightseeing at the most affordable price, the Prague Go City Pass is the best option. However, if you have 5, 6, 7, or 10 days to explore the city and want to “see it all,” then the Cool Pass might be a better choice as it includes several lesser-known attractions. Ultimately, it depends on your travel style and how active you want to be.
Our advice: take a day or two to enjoy the atmosphere. Allow yourself to simply wander with no set goal other than to explore what catches your eye and taste what looks appetizing. Prague is a lovely and safe city to visit, so you should have no anxiety or fear exploring on your own before using a city pass to see the main attractions.
